Little Gull Lighthouse - The Race

Long island sound, ny

Located at the eastern end of Long Island and Long Island Sound, this light together with Race Rock Light across the way stand as sentinels warning mariners of the perils of the Race. The Race is a fast-moving body of water moving in and out of Long Island Sound and Block Island Sound through land mass constrictions of islands that create extreme currents.

The present ninety-one foot structure was built in 1868 and shows two white flashes every 15 seconds that can be seen for 18 miles.  In fog she sounds her massive horn.

Worth seeing-but only possible by boat.
