St. Simon's Island Lighthouse

st. simon’s island, ga

The present tower, built and lit in 1872 is the second lighthouse to occupy this beautiful place. The original lighthouse was built in 1810 and was destroyed by the Confederates in 1861.

She shows a fixed white light and a flashing white light every sixty seconds. Her lights are located at one hundred and four feet above sea level and can be seen from eighteen miles away.

St. Simon's Island Lighthouse is still a very active lighthouse and is worth a visit- as are all our "Vanishing Castles of America".
